Co-op Class Registration Information

Lancaster Baptist Church

1pm (LIGHT Fall 2023 participants) / 2pm (Existing LIGHT members) / 3pm (New LIGHT members)

Please note the cost associated with each class. An additional $11 per child is charged for use of the church building each school year. If you participated in the Fall 2023 semester, you do not need to pay the $11 per child fee again. Please come ready to pay for the classes, and your LIGHT membership, if applicable. Class fees must be paid up front, or your child cannot sign up for classes. A guardian must remain with your child for the entirety of Co-op classes each week. The guardian will be required to complete a background check form.  If you participated in the Fall 2023 semester and have already completed the background check form, you do not need to repeat this step. 

Registration is first come, first served. If you are unable to be physically present at Registration, you can email Kamela Sallee at kamela.sparks@gmail.com after registration until Jan. 29.

First Period

Pre K – 1st

Wacky Weather | Taught by Emily Moyer
Did you know that nearly 2,000 thunderstorms rain down on earth every minute? Or that you can tell the temperature outside by counting a cricket’s chirps? WILD! In this class, students will learn all about the earth’s wacky weather through books, experiments, observations, and more!
Cost: $5

Alphabet Lapbook | Taught by Christy Johnson
Learn both lowercase and uppercase letters with these interactive lapbooks that can be used for continued learning at home. We will practice fine motor skills with coloring, gluing and more. One lapbook per letter during each class will be assembled while learning with fun songs and snacks that go along with our letter! We will be covering G-L this semester. Note: this is a full-year course, but new students are welcome.
Cost: $10 for all students, new and returning

2nd – 4th Grade

Boomwhackers and Bells | Taught by Davina Whitlark
Students will enjoy making music with their classmates using both traditional and non-traditional music notation, all the while having fun with friends and learning to listen and cooperate with others. Students will learn songs on both Boomwhackers and handbells and learn to perform as an ensemble. Students will prepare 1-2 selections to be performed as a group in the Fine Arts Showcase in April. (Date and more information will be given as the time gets closer.) Note: this is a full-year course, but new students are welcome to join for Spring semester.
Cost: $7.50 for new students. No additional charge for returning students.

Arts & Crafts | Taught by Kamela Sallee
Students will have fun in this relaxed style arts and crafts class. We will be making creations using clay, paint, paper mache, craft sticks, chalk pastels and more.
Cost: $10

5th – 7th Grade

The Nifty Fifty, A Guide To Our Country | Taught by Kayce Ball
Come travel the United States as we explore interesting facts and history about all 50 states in our country. Students will get the opportunity to present one state to their classmates at the end of the spring semester. This is a great chance to work on presentation skills and creative ways to share your research.
Note: This is a full-year course, but new students are welcome.
Cost: $10 for new students. No additional cost for returning students.

Chemistry | Taught by Rhonda Cunningham
Join me for an amazing year of chemistry! We will start the fall semester with chemistry basics. This will give us the knowledge we need to dive deep into the world of chemical reactions come spring! This class will be a full year. Note: this is a full-year course and is only open to returning students.
Cost: N/A

8th – 12th Grade

Arts & Crafts | Taught by Tara Gilliam
We will do a variety of arts and crafts, exploring trial and error and having fun making messes! We will do anything from making treasures out of re-purposed items to tie dye.
Cost: $6

Book Writing | Taught by Amber Weiskircher
Bring your great ideas as we draw and write our own children’s books!
Supplies needed: pencils and crayons/colored pencils.
Cost: $3

Additional Class Options

Pre-K – 5th: Hymns & Vocals | Taught by Deb Lucas
This semester our focus hymn will be “How Great Thou Art”. We will sing and learn about a variety of other hymns, both old and new, but will spend time each class on our focus hymn.
Cost: $1

6th-12th: Escape Room | Taught by Lyndsie Drury
Each week, students will be teamed up and given a themed scenario that will require following clues, solving riddles, and puzzles, creative thinking, logical deductions and teamwork. This will be a great opportunity to strengthen current friendships and forge new ones, all while learning, strategizing and sharing lots of laughs (and occasionally snacks)!

Second Period Classes

Pre K – 1st

Berenstain Bears Story Time | Taught by Helen Lowther
We will read so of our favorite Berenstain Bear books! We will talk about what lesson the bears learned in the story and do a small activity.
Cost: $3

Discover Dinosaurs | Taught by Sasha Sullivan
Travel back in time to learn all about dinosaurs! We will be learning through making crafts, reading books and playing games. Note: We will not be discussing exact timelines or young earth vs. old earth theories on when dinosaurs existed.
Cost: $5

2nd-4th Grade

Household Experiments | Taught by Jean Ruby
Using everyday items we will do our own classroom experiments. We will see the power of wind, make homemade play dough, and watch chemical reactions.
Cost: $2

Pirates | Taught by Amber Weiskircher
Are you a land lubber or an old salt? Join us as we sail the seven seas!
Supplies needed: scissors, crayons or colored pencils, glue sticks.
Cost: $5

5th-7th Grade

Meet the Composers | Taught by Davina Whitlark
The goal of this class is to immerse students in the works of famous composers so that they become familiar with their style, methods, and music. Students will listen to selections, have group discussions, and complete activity sheets related to each composer. By the end of this course, students will have learned several different styles of music, vocabulary, and have gained a great appreciation for
music.
Supplies needed: pencils, crayons and/or colored pencils, glue stick, and scissors.

World History: Renaissance to Modern | Taught by Allison Doty
We will use Diana Waring’s materials for a combination of written work and fun projects to learn the timelines, maps and events of these eras. Meets weekly for 13 weeks in the Fall and 13-14 weeks in Spring. Worth 1 High School credit.
Required materials: spiral notebook, pen/pencil, colored pencils.
Note: this is a full-year course and is only open to returning students.

Additional Class Options

K-5th: Lego Building Club | Taught by Anne Appelt
Show your creativity as you build Lego creations! Each week will offer free play (with a theme and project ideas) and a time at the end of class for Show & Tell. There will also be some building challenges scattered throughout the semester. This is an ideal class for any Lego-maniac! This class is free but each student is required to bring their own Lego bricks and a sheet or blanket as a work space. Suggested is this bucket of classic bricks or an equivalent amount with some wheels and a platform.

6th-12th: Hymns and Vocals | Taught by Deb Lucas
This semester our focus hymn will be “Not Yet I, but Through Christ in Me”. We will sing and learn about a variety of other hymns, both old and new, but will spend time each class on our focus hymn. If you plan to join us, please listen to and try to learn some of the lyrics.

Third Period Classes

Pre K – 1st

Pre-Ballet | Taught by Kathryn Rush
This class will introduce ballet terminology and the basic structure of a ballet class. Students should wear clothing that allows for easy movement. Ballet shoes and attire are welcome but not required.

Games | Taught by Helen Lowther
Come play board games, card games, and dice games! You can also bring your favorite game to play.

2nd – 4th Grades

Taste through Time: Colonial American Cuisine | Taught by Sasha Sullivan
Join us as we cook and bake our way through history! We will learn about America throughout it’s colonization and birth during the Revolutionary War. We will be making recipes from that time era and learning history as we go.
Cost: $15

Hot Wheels: Race to Win | Taught by Lee Ann Williams
This class engages students through play and hands on experience in solving real-life problems using important physical science concepts, engineering practices, and math skills.
Cost: $13

5th – 7th Grades

Snacking around the World | Taught by Kayce Ball

U can Ukulele 2 | Taught by Davina Whitlark
Students will continue learning new songs, new strumming patterns, and new notes on the ukulele and enjoy singing and playing with their classmates! Students will prepare 1-2 selections to be performed as a group in the Fine Arts Showcase in April. (Date and more information will be given as the time gets
closer.)
Materials needed for class: soprano, concert, or tenor ukulele, Ukulele book (ask teacher), tuner.
Note: this is a full-year course and is only open to returning students.

8th – 12th Grades

Chicken Scratch Embroidery | Taught by Tracey H.
Chicken Scratch is a type of embroidery worked on gingham fabric. Using certain stitches, thread or floss creates a lace-like design on gingham fabric when finished. In this class we will be embroidering a heart.
Cost: $5

Geography | Taught by Allison Doty
High School World Geography – This class will meet EVERY week and will begin 2/22. 1/2 credit
We will explore physical and political geography. They will leave with an understanding of the themes of geography and how humans interact with the world around them.
Cost: $50

Additional Class Options

K-5th: Nerf Class | Taught by Steven Moyer
This class will be fast paced and action packed. Students will engage in nerf wars and different nerf games during each class session. Please keep in mind when signing students up that they will be shot with nerf darts. To keep class costs low, students will need to bring their own nerf gun and a pair of well fitting safety glasses with them each session. Nerf darts will be provided. Students will be required to unload their nerf gun before each class session is over.
Cost: $3

Card Games | Taught by Lyndsie Drury
Join us as we learn and play games that require a simple deck of cards. A variety of games will be learned, including ones that are single player and multi-player, while we have fun and fellowship together.
Cost: $5 for new students. No cost for returning students.
